Enjoyed all over the world by people of all ages, online bingo has grown in popularity because it’s easy to pick up, social, and fun to play.

Bingo as we know it today was first played at the turn of the 20th Century, starting with a simple 5*5 75-ball game, then the 3*9 90-ball bingo format.

Once played in bingo halls, the game has now moved to the online sphere, with the biggest wins in history having been more than £1.1 million.

There are lots of websites that offer limited-versionbingo games free of charge to enticecautious new players, and showing them that they can win big if they give it a try.

Bingoport, a popular British online bingohub, have recently releasedan infographic to celebrate Britain’s forthcoming 2012 London Olympics, which demonstrates some pretty staggering bingo-related factoids.

  • The three biggest bingo wins in history were£1,167,795, £1,101,686 and £1,000,000;

  • The quickest win in history was achieved by a player who had signed up no less than 40 minutes before making their first win of… £40,000! That’s just a third of the time it would take to run the 26.2-mile Olympic marathon.

  • The highest game of bingo in history was played at 17,500ft, which is over 1,500 times the world pole vault record. And to put that into perspective, it’s that’s more than 12 times higher than the uppermost tipthe Empire State Building in New York.

  • If you were to line up all the bingo balls used in just the last three months, it would equate to the distance of length of over 300 26.2-mile marathons – that’s a whopping distance of more than 7,860 miles, or more than three times the distance of a journey to Timbuktu!
